Hawaiian Explorer 2 is the second edition of this series. A 63 years old adventurer invites you to participate in a quest looking for The Lost Island of Hawaii. There’s a legend as the story of the game. Let’s know it as an introduction:
Many years ago, before the Hawaiians came to the islands, the Ancient Gods: PELE: the goddess of fire; KANALOA, the god of the sea; LONO, the god of peace; and KU, the god of war, all had a meeting about creation of the Hawaiian Islands. PELE who controlled the volcanoes would make the earth of lava, KANALOA, would use the sea water to cool this land and to bring rain to grow plants and make it a green paradise. LONO said he would keep peace in these islands and KU said he would make war against anybody who would want to invade this paradise. They would make these islands isolated from the outside world so that their Hawaiian children could grow and develop a great civilization. They created 19 main islands and over 100 smaller islands, but people would mostly live on 7 of them. The Gods decided to make a 20th island which would be hidden, a secret place they could visit and watch what was going on. PELE said we must leave some clues because what happens if one day the people do not believe in us anymore, and we must have a place they can find so that they can again believe in the old ways. This legend had been whispered by the native Hawaiians for years.
Beyond the legend and introduction, which gets kind of boring in the game but you can skip it, the game is a seek & find game. This means that you have to search for certain items on different locations, in this case New York and the Hawaiian Islands. What you have to do is to help the adventurer to get some thing he needs to begin the expedition. Each scene is a mess and a list tells you what to look for. When you find it click on it to clear it from the list. When you find all the items you finish the level.
The game also includes some minigames you need to play to progress in the mission. Three are these minigames: puzzle game, memory game, and mahjong game.
When you first enter the game, you’ll get to the main menu with the following options on it:
- Change player: the first time there’s no existing player. After you create one or more, they’ll be saved. When you enter into this submenu, you’ll be asked for a name as a new player. It’s possible to have a list of different profiles and record their performance. This way, you can play home tournaments with family and friends.
- Play: this option leads you to the game mode selection screen. You can choose between Timed Mode and Relaxed Mode. After that you’ll be reaching the first scene to play.
- Options: this is the menu from which you can set some game options like sound volume, music volume, and full screen.
- Help: includes some information about the game rules and minigames.
- Quit: no further explanation required.
You can try this game for 60 minutes before you buy the licensed version. If you like it, you can buy this game for only 19.95 dollars, right from the Oberon Media Game Center, on the Web.
